چکیده

Markov modulated self-similar processes are proposed to model MPEG video sequences that can capture the LRD (Long Range Dependency) characteristics of video ACF (Auto-Correlation Function). The basic idea is to decompose an MPEG compressed video sequence into three parts according to different motion/content complexity such that each part can individually be described by a self-similar process. Beta distribution is used to characterize the marginal cumulative distribution (CDF) of the self-similar processes. To model the whole data set, Markov chain is used to govern the transitions among these three self-similar processes. In addition to the analytical derivation, initial simulations have demonstrated that our new model can capture the LRD of ACF and the marginal CDF very well. Network cell loss rate using our proposed synthesized traffic is found to be comparable with that using empirical data as the source traffic.

MPEG Video Traffic Models: Sequentially Modulated Self-Similar Processes

1 New traffic models are called for to facilitate the design of effective admission and flow control algorithms, and network performance evaluation in accommodating video traffic. We propose a new approach, sequentially modulated self-similar processes (SMSSPs), to model MPEG coded video traffic. SMSSPs are shown to be able to capture both short range dependency (SRD) and long range dependency ...

Traffic Analysis and Modeling of Real World Video Encoders

Any performance evaluation of broadband networks requires statistical analysis and modeling of the actual network traffic. Since multimedia services and especially MPEG coded video streams are expected to be a major traffic component over these networks, modeling of such services and accurate estimation of the network resources are crucial for the reliable operation of the future telecommunicat...

On modeling MPEG video traffics

This paper traces the development/evolution of three of our recently proposed MPEG coded video traffic models, that can capture the statistical properties of MPEG video data. The basic ideas behind these models are to decompose an MPEG compressed video sequence into several parts according to motion/scene complexity or data structure. Each part is described by a self-similar process. These diff...

Modeling and Queuing Analysis of Variable- Bit-rate Mpeg Video Streams

In this paper modeling and queuing analysis of variable-bit-rate (VBR) MPEG coded video sources transmitted over B-ISDN networks are studied. A low pass version of the aggregate MPEG sequence is examined so that the network resources are analytically predicted. Based on this simplified signal, a discrete-state continuous-time Markov chain is proposed to approximate the MPEG video traffic. Then,...

Source Modeling, Queueing Analysis, and Bandwidth Allocation for VBR MPEG-2 Video Traffic in ATM Networks

In this paper we study source modeling, queueing analysis and bandwidth allocation issues of VBR MPEG-2 video traffic in ATM networks. We propose a mini-source based discrete-time Markov modulated deterministic process (D-MMDP) to model the macro-frame smoothed VBR MPEG-2 traffic. It is shown that such a modeling technique is sufficiently accurate and simplies the involved queueing analysis for...
